Sony Giga Juke NAS-S55HDE

Can anyone tell me what USB hard disks are supported by Sony to back up data stored on the Giga Juke.

The operating instructions state that using a non supported hard disk may cause the unit to malfunction.

I have tried to find this information on the Sony site, but have been unsuccessful.

Good morning.

I have pushed, pulled and poked everything in site, and so far, everything seems to be working OK!

EXCEPT my settings still say I have no connection to the internet - but this CANNOT be the case because I have recently copied new CDs and the information from Gracenote has downloaded happily!

One thing that I seem to have done differently is to have the wireless LAN setting to Instant (S-IWS) not AOSS.

Well said spinxxxxx - couldn't agree more.

My local Sony shop is STILL unaware of any problems with the Giga Juke - so no help there!!!

Just thought I'd test "spoysers" theory that we are accessing a built in Gracenote database.

1) Borrowed my daughter's album Ceremonials released by Florence & The Machine on 31/10/11.

2) Swiched on the Gigajuke and selected play CD and pressed open/close disc tray button - disc tray opened.

3) Inserted CD into tray, pressed open/close disc tray button - nothing - tray did not move.

4) Persuaded the tray to close by pushing it (not recommended I guess) - it closed.

5) Gigajuke accessed Gracenote and downloaded the CD information.

6) Thought I'd just check the network settings and it says there is no connection to the Internet.

STRANGE!!!

3) Has now happened so many times, I am unsure of exact details, however the system locked up (Power on/off button would not work) after I looked up the software version this morning.

Previously the same had happened after playing 3 CDs.

Blue light "pulsing".

In response to your questions:

1) I am using the supplied wireless station.

2) I do have a client as part of the set up - NAS-C5E.

I am also using the supplied wireless adaptor.

My broadband connection is via Virgin Media cable.

Hope this all helps to sort out this situation.

If it helps - mine is an NAS-S55HDE.

As suggested earlier, perhaps Sony could send us all a questionnaire requesting relevant details - oh! and also where to find the details required.

By the way - have you noticed the stated times of your messages? Seem to be out by an hour!!!

Yep - appears to be a temporary fix only.

Yesterday, followed instructions for the fix.

Played around with the controls switching between HDD and CD and there appeared to be no problems.

Today, I've played 3 CDs and back to ON/OFF control freezing and blue light flashing.

Hope the crew from Japan can come up with a solution pronto.

Will keep an eye on this forum in the hopes!!!!

Have you ever noticed the box on the right of this page entitled "Similar questions"?

It appears to be "Retrieving data" continuosly.

Does this mean that there are trillions of similar questions ................ or is this another Sony product that doesn't work properly?

Good morning all.

Thought I would try a back door method to try and get an answer to this problem!

Just send an e-mail to Gracenote containing this link and ask if they have any comments, especially as they are the "third party" involved.

Problem is, when I try to send an e-mail to support@gracenote.com I get a little box saying "Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed".

Being no expert on things technical, I don't know if this is me or them!!

Anybody else want to try to contact Gracenote and succeed where I have failed?

I do hope this problem gets sorted out before long or else I will use the various components of my Giga Juke as fishing weights - then they would have water damage!

Mmmm! Sorry to say that the remove dongle etc only worked as a temporary fix for me.

Tried to go through the Software Update function, but same As Niclan - no server.

COME ON SONY SURELY YOU MUST REALISE THERE IS A PROBLEM HERE - have we paid out megabucks for these systems, only to be let down by you.

This problem cannot be limited to the people who have posted here - there are probably hundreds who do not know it even exists, and have either given up the ghost and ditched their kit, or paid Sony to repair it!!

I have always purchased Sony audio & TV, but I don't think I will be in future.

Is there a moderator in this group who could make some comment?

Hi - seems i'm another one to suffer from this problem. Went to my local Sony shop today, but all they could offer was bring it in and we will charge you £55+.

Will keep plugging away at the tips and see if it helps.

I must agree with everyone - spend a lot of money on a piece of kit that doesn't last more than 2 years - shocking!! (and that's being polite).
